1991 Accelerator is the first accelerator in Ukraine with the most highly focused and deep pipeline. It assists entrepreneurs on their business journey, from a flash of inspiration to real startups that provide services to citizens, businesses, and government agencies.
Denys and Viktor Gursky started SocialBoost, motivated to use open data in developing of a transparent and effective state. Subsequently, the consolidation of the technological community for this purpose was transformed; one of the directions became the development of civic tech and govtech startups that use open data for their products and services. The founders and stakeholders faced the task of creating a space where government officials, businesses, and startups could cooperate for mutual benefit.
The 1991 Open Data Incubator blazed a trail as Ukraine's inaugural non-commercial incubator focusing on IT projects driven by open state data. The incubator spearheaded digitization efforts in critical sectors like agribusiness, energy, infrastructure, public services, and state-level analytical systems. It was a vital bridge, facilitating collaboration between IT developers, public organizations, analytical centers, and government authorities. The programs were meticulously crafted for interdisciplinary teams seeking to harness data from both public and corporate sectors to birth innovative startups.
In 2020, the Ukrainian Startup Fund accredited the 1991 Open Data Incubator. It made it possible to increase the number of startups that could be accelerated.
In 2022, the 1991 Open Data Incubator was reformatted as the 1991 Accelerator due to a change in focus to projects that are already working and planning to scale.
